Tights While Running, Tights After

I had a 10 mile race yesterday, a prep race for the big race I have in the middle of April that ends in and is named after a big New England city (hint, hint). It had been snowing, and the temperature was in the low 30's. In those temperatures, I like to keep my knees warm. I wore, like I usually do, Under Armour Cold Gear (tights) Leggings. When the race finished, they had showers available at a local school. Knowing that compression is important after running longer distances, I brought a pair of Comfilon A876 full support footless tights(as seen above) to change into after a quick shower. Although they look opaque, and they mostly are, Comfilon recommends that they be worn with shorts, as they are too sheer to wear alone. I put them on, and a pair of shorts, and I was off to the lunch served after, then home. I'll have to say, due to the opaqueness of them, it probably looked as if I was just wearing regular running tights.

What Ever Happened to Man-T-Hose?

They used to be readily available online, but now they are few and far between. I bought a pair a long while ago, simple sheer tan nylon tights with an extra pouch for your "junk". I wore them for a while until they developed runs. In the mean time I bought another pair to keep as a remembrance of one of the first, be it a novelty or joke, pair of men's tights (pantyhose).

Does it Look Like I Have Sheer Tights On?

As I said earlier in the week, the weather was looking like it would be nice enough to wear sheer tights under my running shorts. The weather did not disappoint, at 55 degrees, it was near perfect weather for sheer tights running. I have on a pair of No Nonsense tan all nylon sheer tights (pantyhose, I am referring to them as sheer tights from now on). I think the color blends in so well that it is hard to tell that I'm wearing tights. What do you think?

Happy Belated Valentine's Day

Did you get tights for Valentine's Day? Alas, I did not. My wife and I have a love/hate relationship with hosiery. I love them, and she hates them. Every holiday that rolls around, I secretly hope to get some tights as a gift from her.

Speaking of tights, I've been thinking about the definition. Wikipedia's article on tights says that in America, tights are anything over 40 Denier, while Pantyhose are those that are below 40 denier. In the UK they are all called tights. I like the word tights when referring to men's wear. It sounds more uni-sex.

It has been warming up here in New England. I went for a run on Valentine's Day while wearing Comfilon footless tights and shorts. If it warms up enough the end of the week, maybe I will run in sheer tights (aka pantyhose) and shorts!

Until next time, stay hosed and stay happy.

Pantyhose in the News

Pantyhose have been in the news lately here in the New England area, but not as a practical piece of clothing, or a fashion statement, rather a way to get rid of ice dams.

In this article it is explained how to fill pantyhose with ice melt such as calcium chloride or salt and to throw it on the roof to melt the ice. Fortunately, I don't have this problem, but I find it funny seeing all the news stories about using pantyhose to melt ice.

Speaking of ice, I am getting ready to go outside and go for a longish run. I will be wearing my CW-X tights under sweatpants since it is so cold. I got these in last week.

They are definitely made fro warmer weather running. I tried them out when I got them in on a warmer cold day, say around 29 degrees, and my legs were cold. Right now it is a balmy 13 degrees, I think that I should wear something over them.
