Men in tights in paintings

I recently went to Washington DC, and had a couple of hours to spare. I was walking by the National Gallery of Art , and decided to walk in. While looking at some of the paintings, I saw men in tights. Armed with only my cell phone camera (and because it was permitted) I took pictures for our readers:

I did not try to capture the whole painting, but rather, tried to capture the depiction of the Romans wearing tights. At least that is what it looked like to me, especially the man furthest to the right.

This was the second one I saw. Not sure if he is wearing tights, or just very long socks. There were probably more that I missed, there was just so much to see. As for real live men wearing hosiery, I only saw one, and he probably wouldn't qualify. A bike messenger wearing athletic tights, under shorts.

For Halloween, I'd like to dress like the fellow in the second photo.

You should let us know when you take these trips. I work in Arlington, just the other side of the river from DC. You would have had the opportunity to meet a real live man wearing hosiery :)
